Let's Grow

Napoleon Hill, author of the famous book entitled Think and Grow Rich, once said, “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” In the rapidly changing industry of orthodontics, are you consistently pushing your practice to improve and grow? If not, then you run the very real risk of watching the viability of your practice become threatened by swiftly advancing competition. During this growth-focused seminar we will discuss the changing landscape of orthodontics, how to position your practice for future success, ideas for growing your market dominance and practice performance, as well as practical ways to immediately improve your sales efficacy. This course will contain material designed specifically for practice owners and key management, as well as a half-day breakout session specifically developed to improve the sales skills of your Treatment Coordinator(s). If your practice could use some fresh new ideas on how to grow, this is a seminar you need to attend.

Early “3d Control” For Steve - in tribute to Steve Tracy, Orthodontist/Innovator/Educator/Out of the Box kind of guy.

Orthodontists have always wanted to gain control of axial inclination of anterior teeth early in treatment. Various shortcomings in traditional straight wire theory, manufacturing inconsistencies, and restrictive case management strategies have made this difficult. Today, progressive case management approaches developed by Tom Pitts, when combined with improved slot geometries with better manufacturing tolerances of H4 bracket, and esthetically based Pitts Broad arch forms, makes this achievable.

Join us to explore, where we came from, where we are today, and progressive strategies that will improve the Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Quality of your final result tomorrow!

Variables Influencing Consumer Behavior When Selecting an Orthodontic Provider

One of the unanswered questions in orthodontics is what variables influence a patient's decision when selecting an orthodontic treatment provider be it a general dentist or orthodontic specialist. As email marketing, billboards, and print advertising continue to become a thing of the past and platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook dominate the social media ecosystem, it becomes imperative to investigate what specific factors are involved in selecting an orthodontic treatment provider to speak to the consumer in an culturally relevant and meaningful way.

Examining the orthodontic patient experience via Twitter

Social media has changed the way people communicate. Twitter has become a platform for people to post their thoughts in real time. Traditional surveys are often employed to gather feedback from patients on their healthcare experiences. However, these surveys introduce recall bias. Twitter offers an unsolicited data source that is instantaneous and publically-available. A great way to utilize this vast data source is to examine the patient experience with braces versus the patient experience with Invisalign. Current research on this topic is sparse and conflicting. We designed a software program to continuously collect all tweets containing the words "braces" and "Invisalign" over a five month period. A second program was written to analyze and sort the tweets based on sentiment analysis into one of five categories: positive, negative, neutral, advertisement, and not applicable. The "not applicable" and "advertisement" categories were first filtered with a Naïve Bayes Hierarchical Classifier to eliminate tweets unrelated to the patient experience. The program was trained and tested for accuracy on manually-sorted texts. 492,171 tweets were collected from April 29th through September 29th, 2015. Invisalign had a significantly greater percentage of tweets that were advertisements (33% vs. 7%). No significant difference in the percentage of negative tweets between Invisalign and braces was found (38% vs. 39%). Invisalign advertises an enhanced patient experience, so it was surprising to find no difference in sentiment between the two groups.
